David Minehan
Painting the Heart of the Irish Home
Irish artist David Minehan paints the Ireland many people carry in memory: the warmth of a cottage kitchen, a kettle on the boil, a half-door left open to the day.
The kitchen, warm and waiting. A window onto green, and the sea somewhere beyond it.
His titles alone tell you what he is drawn to. Come Sit by the Fire. Welcome Home. In for the Tea. Heart of the Home. Each one is an invitation rather than a description.
A chair pulled up to the fire. A book lying open on a sill. Flowers freshly picked and set into a jug. You feel less like a viewer and more like a guest who has arrived a few minutes early, left for a moment to settle inβto sit with the quiet before the kettle calls.
Minehan is a self-taught artist from Dungarvan, County Waterford, and has been painting for most of his life. He traces much of his work back to memory: his grandfather's kitchen, the open half-door, and the fire at the center of everything. A place where family gathered, stories were shared, and visitors were always welcome.
A place to meet family and friends,
a place to share stories.
These are the age-old traditions that inspire my paintings.

π Dungarvan, Ireland
From his upbringing in this harbor town on Ireland's southeast coast, to seeking out preserved Irish cottages all over the country, David Minehan carries forward a love of place, memory, and the quiet beauty of Ireland's cottage traditions.
From Dungarvan to Ireland's Hidden Cottages
Each cottage tells its own story. Together, they form a portrait of Ireland itself.
